Everything will change. A Ministry of WorldVenture.
Almut, Tricia, and I went to church this last Sunday by ourselves. We got there a little late but got a seat in the back. The church service was extra long. About 3 hours in Tricia passed out in her seat. Almut and I caught her. We had no idea what happened. Her eyes were still wide open but you could see she wasn’t there. Her face got really white. We were scared for her, but didn’t know what to do. Thankfully she was only out for maybe a minute if that. Then, the three of us went to sit outside of the church and Almut got her some water. She said that she has passed out before when she was in high school and that it felt about the same. She just felt really tired, passed out, and when she woke up she said she felt like she had just woken up from a long nap. We went ahead and left about a half hour later because she was a little sick to her stomach and the church service showed no sign of ending soon. When we got back we ate some lunch and she went to take a nap. I got really concerned again when she didn’t wake up until about 6 hours later when I woke her up so she could eat dinner. I thought maybe she had malaria, because I’ve learned that sometimes the only symptom you may have is just being really tired. The next day she talked to Angelika on the phone about it and she said it was malaria. So, Angelika called one of the workers on campus and he went and bought the treatment for her. She is already starting to feel better, but is still tired sometimes. Malaria is something that is pretty common for people to get here. Some people get it every year just like the flu, and then they take the treatment/cure and it’s gone. There are several different types of malaria, but it is usually only dangerous if you don’t do anything about it. We just have to listen to our bodies. Even if someone isn’t completely sure it is malaria or not they still take the cure just in case. Since we did not grow up in Africa it is important for us to take a medication like Doxy which I take every day. But, just because we take this medicine doesn’t mean we can’t get malaria. It just helps us for when we get malaria that it’s not so bad.
