Everything will change. A Ministry of WorldVenture.
Have you ever wondered what Jesus would have looked like if He had not been God? What would he have been like if He didn't have the power of the universe at His fingertips? Well I want to tell you what he would have looked like.
Jesus would have looked exactly the way he is portraied in scripture. Am I saying that he did not have the power of the universe at His fingertips? No, but I am saying he did not use that power to live his life. Here is a beautiful glimpse into the importance of Christ's humanity (remember he is 100% man and 100% God). I want to point to several texts to make the case that Jesus lived by the same grace that he asks us to live by.
Philippians 2:6-8 says that Jesus "was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming OBEDIENT to the point of death, even death on a cross."
This passage is a famous text that describes what Jesus did when he became a man. He emptied himself, or made himself nothing. That power that was at his fingertips was not something he "grasped."
WAIT, Let me tell two more passages that might help you understand a bit better. Hebrews 4:14-15 tells us that we have a high priest (that means a mediator or intercessor or advocate) who can sympathize with our weakness. Then he tells us to boldly come to God to ask for grace because Jesus understands your need. If you also look at hebrews 2:9 we learn that Jesus suffered "by the grace of God." In Hebrews 5:8 we learn that Jesus "learned obedience."
So what is my point? My point is that Jesus lived his life using the resources that every christian has access to. He was God and he could have used his Godness to live life but he didn't he used his Humaness combined with God's grace to live life. He did all this so that He could understand how hard it is to live this way. That is why he tells us to approach Him to ask for grace with "boldness." He knows your need!! He knows how hard it is!! He understands!! He did it Himself and he will gladly give you the help you need (grace) if you ask.
