If you want to hear a preacher

I just heard some of the most powerful preaching of my life. Oscar Muriu preached last night at Urbana and really spoke powerfully. He is a pastor in Kenya and he spoke so pointedly to the 16,000 students about how missions should be done. He explained how damaging a westerner can be to a country if they come in and do not humble themselves before the poor. If you get a chance to hear it I highly recommend it.

Urbana Update

Our team is busy sharing, coaching and praying with hundreds of students at Urbana. Urbana is the largest mission’s conference in North America for young adults and they are enjoying every minute. We have had great conversations with students and they are excited about WorldVenture, the majority (75%) has expressed an interest in Journey Corps.

Urbana 2009 God is Good

Well we've finished our first full day at urbana 2009. It was a great day! I was just happy to be with the rest of the team. Yesterday I was sick all day and had to spend it in bed. Today I am feeling much better and was able to meet a bunch of people who are interested in missions. It is so cool to see people who are focusing on missions.

If you are praying for us we are so grateful. It is my greatest prayer not that WorldVenture or Journey Corps grows but that God's kingdom does.… Continue

Urbana 2009

We arrived in Saint Louis yesterday for Urbana 2009. After a challenging trip we believe that God has much in store for us at this event. First we were stuck in Limon Colorado for seven hours due to snow and windy conditions. We also had one of our team members get sick durring our trip. We arrived about 10 hours later then planned but we are ready for God to do something great. It seems like someone (satan) wanted to prevent us from making it.

Please be praying for this event. We… Continue

Preaching to action...

Jesus starts His ministry with very important patterns. He moves from preaching to healing and caring for people. Right after his powerful sermon on the mount he goes out and heals, calms storms, and casts demons from the afflicted. So many times I feel like I am much better at the preaching part. It’s the whole who can walk the walk and not just talk the talk. I hope that my preaching of truth will alway move into action. That action, even if it not as miraculous as Jesus’ action, will be the… Continue

What are works good for?

This morning I read Hebrews 9:1-14. One phrase jumped out at me, "gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper." The writer of Hebrews was talking about the temple rituals of the old testament. He describes all the things that the priest would do in the temple and then he tacks that line at the end of his explanation. When he says this, "gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper," he is referring to the Old… Continue

Everything will change

The last few days I have met with several National leaders ran across several of our veteran missionaries and Rod, Angelika and I have had numerous discussions regarding the service tracks and what activities will best meet the needs of the National Church, Ivoirians’ in villages, and our missionaries and their work. I met formally with the leaders of the National Association and shared our vision for Journey Corps and again got their blessing and support for the ministry.

Rod,… Continue

God has provided 103% of my mission support!!

Having Kids To Do Missions...

Okay, so this blog might not always be Alison. If I (Aaron) write on it I’ll let you know so that you don’t have to read it. I want to talk about kids.

Kids are great aren’t they? I think that raising a child is a wonderful opportunity to worship God. “What do you mean Aaron?” Well if we are on this planet to make God Look great, then raising kids who do that and reflect God’s greatness is worship.

You might stop me and say, “you made a big jump there Aaron, from raising… Continue

Our Journey Begins

Today I arrived in Abidjan, Cote d’Iviore; it’s my first trip in an official capacity as the International Director for Journey Corps. This is the same city where hundreds of young will travel in route to their home away from home the Journey Corps Training Center. I try to imagine what they will feel, will they be excited, anxious, scared? What experience, training, education, or passion brought them to this crossroad in their journey? How well are they prepared for the journey… Continue
