Recent Happening and Big News

Lately I feel like I've had so much going on but when I actually think about it, it's really not that much. In my mind it just feels like it 1) because everything takes extra thinking when you're not in your own culture or speaking English, 2) I've had a lot more to do than last month, and 3) I've just had a lot to think about.Right now my life consists of going to church on Sunday, then visiting people and finding ways to occupy my time on Monday and Tuesday, working at a school for…See More

Hey girl! Congrats for making it so far! Has Angeilka introduced you to the dance at the hotel in Bouaké yet? They donate tennis stuff to handicapped kids, so I wonder if you've ever worked with them. They are super fun and nice.…

Romans 8: 38-39

"For I am convinced that neither life nor death, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."So our team has been studying the book of Romans together. And although I've read it before, reading it here I get different things out of it than I did before. Like the verse above, I know I've read it before but this time…See More

Just Random Stories.

My little 1 1/2 year-old brother Enoch is the my main source of entertainment at home. One night, he was just lifting up his shirt and staring at his bellybutton and walking around. He walked up to me on the couch and showed it to me and then turned around and walked away, still looking down at his bellybutton. He kept walking right smack into the wall, turned, and continued all the while just staring at his bellybutton! As funny as he is, Enoch is a fussy little guy. But he always seems…See More

This is great Tricia.  I love the pictures that you paint and it helps me know a little better what life will be like for us.  What are the foods you mentioned?

Life in the Family

So I've been living in my family for about three weeks now and I realized that in my last blog I described all my family members but I didn't tell everybody how day to day life works in my family and what things are the most different.Every morning at 5:00 a.m. I wake up to the sound of the call to prayer coming from our neighborhood mosque. I don't really know how to describe the call to prayer but it is not a pleasant sound, especially at 5:00 in the morning. The first few days I remember…See More

My Ivorian Family

So last Tuesday I moved in with my host family! So far it's been great, I love my family, they're so fun and caring and patient. Even though I've absolutely loved being with them, I am so exhausted from speaking and trying to understand French allll the time! I sleep so much now! There are 6 people in my family and they're all so great! First there's my papa. He's really talkative and outgoing and makes me laugh so much! I love it when he gets home from work and says, "Ah, ma fille!" (my…See More

Why are you interest in Journey Corps?
How hands on it's going to be! I can't wait to be there in the midst of it all. Also the length of time, we'll actually have time to build a relationship with the people there.
Your Heart For Missions

What interests, abilities, and gifts has God given you?
love for children, sports, learning, public speaking, flying, anything outdoors, cooking, drawing & painting,
Do you have a mission coach?

I didn't realize you are from Gilroy! I've been there dozens of times! And hume! Ahhhh, so glad that someone on the team other than myself and Naomi have experience the wonders of Hume Lake! I'll be there soon!

Hume Lake is awesome! I worked up there a few summers ago at Meadow ranch. It's pretty much the place I drive when I need fresh air/perspective.

Hi Tricia!
How is support raising going? Do you have any specific prayer requests that I can pray with you about? I can't wait to meet you this fall!

Hey there! How did your Grandpa's surgery go? I'll definitely keep your support raising in my prayers. It can be a challenge sometimes. I was reading 2 Corinthians 8-9 this morning, and it really encouraged me and reminded me that when we get the word out about what we're doing and what our financial needs are we're giving people a chance to "excel in the grace of giving" :-) Things are going pretty well for me. Just got my first batch of support letters out and working on getting some of the paperwork finished up and in the mail.

Hey Tricia! I will definitely be praying for support raising and your grandpa. I hope to hear from you on Friday about God's provision and physician-nature with his recovery! No worries about your hesitancy with languages -- I taught in an innercity DC school where kids could barely even read, and I still had them saying something! Start looking at the resources on the JC team site to get you started.
