Ouagadougou

So recently the Benkadi team took a little vacation to Burkina Faso, just like last year. Our first stop was at the Nazinga wildlife park. There we saw elephants, warthogs, and lots of antelope. Even though it was my second time, I was still amazed at just how huge elephants are, especially when you're looking at them without a fence separating you! From there our team split up, most of the group went back south to Banfora to swim at the waterfalls, while a few of us went north to the capital,…See More

"Great! Just wondered, because we are trying to figure out what would be a good 2nd language to start with, so I just wanted to hear your thoughts about it. Keep at it though!"

Lots of Little Things.

These last two months, my life has just been all over the place. Every week it seems like I'm in a new place or with new people, and definitely doing something very different from the week before. But at least things aren't getting boring. I can't think of a way to describe what my last two months, I've just been doing lots of different little things. So right after spending Christmas in Korhogo, I headed down to Bouake and met up with the whole Journey Corps team so that we could celebrate New…See More

A Parasite Free Christmas

So this Christmas I was really lucky to go back to Korhogo and spend the week with my host family. It was actually my first time celebrating Christmas here because last year I had parasites! It had been two months since I had been able to see my friends and family there and it was soooo good to be back! One of the best things parts of coming back was seeing my little brother Enoch who can talk now! He greeted me with a huge smile and a hug and was going around to everyone saying "Tanti's here!…See More

So how do I summarize the last month? I'm not sure, I've been busier than I've ever been here and I'm trying to remember the highlights. Orientation for the Journey Corps 2012 team is almost over! There's only one week left before they move in with their host families! During this time, I've been doing lots of translating, as I wrote about before. I guess you could say translating seminars from French to English is my main job, along with just kind of taking care of things around the dorm.…See More

If God Is For Us, Who Can Be Against Us?

So I'll be honest, I'm not sure where to start this blog. I just looked at my calender to see how long it has been since the new team got here, and it's been a month. Seriously??? I don't believe it! Where the heck did the last four weeks go? So far we've done seminars on culture and the stress and shock that can come with living in a new one, current sicknesses and diseases, and hygiene/day-to-day life in an Ivorian home. Again, I can't believe how fast this month has gone, but that's probably…See More

Changes.

Well the Journey Corps Fall 2012 team has arrived and we just finished week two of orientation! These two weeks have been a blur of new faces, new names, explaining culture, translating, talking, talking, and more talking. So much has changed now with a whole new group but I'm so excited to see what changes are to come during their next 11 weeks of orientation. I'm not really sure what to tell you guys that will be of any interest to you but I would like to say thank you to my supporters, if it…See More

Why are you interest in Journey Corps?
How hands on it's going to be! I can't wait to be there in the midst of it all. Also the length of time, we'll actually have time to build a relationship with the people there.
Your Heart For Missions
I'm definitely a people person. So what better thing can I do than reach out to people, am I right? It's also really important to me that nobody is considered less human than another just because of their race, education, wealth, social status, etc.
What interests, abilities, and gifts has God given you?
love for children, sports, learning, public speaking, flying, anything outdoors, cooking, drawing & painting,

Hey there! Wow, you are staying a second year, that's amazing! I'm very excited to join the team in September and I'd love to play volleyball there, too! :)

I didn't realize you are from Gilroy! I've been there dozens of times! And hume! Ahhhh, so glad that someone on the team other than myself and Naomi have experience the wonders of Hume Lake! I'll be there soon!

Hume Lake is awesome! I worked up there a few summers ago at Meadow ranch. It's pretty much the place I drive when I need fresh air/perspective.

Hi Tricia!
How is support raising going? Do you have any specific prayer requests that I can pray with you about? I can't wait to meet you this fall!

Hey there! How did your Grandpa's surgery go? I'll definitely keep your support raising in my prayers. It can be a challenge sometimes. I was reading 2 Corinthians 8-9 this morning, and it really encouraged me and reminded me that when we get the word out about what we're doing and what our financial needs are we're giving people a chance to "excel in the grace of giving" :-) Things are going pretty well for me. Just got my first batch of support letters out and working on getting some of the paperwork finished up and in the mail.

Hey Tricia! I will definitely be praying for support raising and your grandpa. I hope to hear from you on Friday about God's provision and physician-nature with his recovery! No worries about your hesitancy with languages -- I taught in an innercity DC school where kids could barely even read, and I still had them saying something! Start looking at the resources on the JC team site to get you started.
