For more than 65 years, WorldVenture has been training national leaders around the world. Journey corps is now leveraging this experience to equip the next generation of missional leaders. Two years ago a Concept Paper was circulated to WorldVenture leadership outlining a service program that would allow young adults to be equipped to serve, within a cross-cultural environment for up to two years, this was the beginning of Journey Corps!
To see 1,000 emerging leaders trained in cross-cultural ministry and equipped to serve the nations by 2020.
To facilitate a missional movement by equipping young people to lead and serve.
Outcomes:
| Lovers of Jesus: Journey Corps is a service ministry. As we go into West Africa we must have something to offer and that something comes from and is Christ. As each person cultivates a relationship with his or her Lord, they find their meaning, identity, strength, and hope in Him. They can then give that to others as they serve. | |
|
Life long learners: Being a life long learner
is important for any field of work. For Journey Corps it will be a
primary focus. Being learners takes a mentality of humility. One of
the most powerful ways to serve in another culture is to submit
yourself to the nationals and learn from them. We want each
Journeyer to learn the culture by submitting to the local body of
Christ in Ivory Coast. This means asking questions and being
willing to hear the answers with humility. |
|
| Servant Leaders: Leadership= influence. We want each Journeyer to learn to influence people with the Gospel of Christ by serving them. This ties back to an attitude of humility. Servant leaders seek to learn the real needs of people, not the perceived needs. They then meet those real needs with hearts of service. |
Discover your Calling and next steps: God has gifted every person in His church with specific strengths and has also placed a calling on their life (Eph 2:10). We believe that if a person can capitalize on their strengths and serve where they're called, then they will be an unstoppable tool in God's hand. Not only will they be effective, but they will also find the greatest joy in their service.
“So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them" (Rom 12:5-6).
Journey Corps’ aim is to help people find their sweet spot. To find that sweet spot, we hope to provide an atmosphere of intentionality where Journeyers will focus their energy on finding their calling. Journey Corps' leadership will mentor Journeyers as they process their experiences and discern what the Lord's will is for their lives.
Fall in Love with Ivoirians’: As people live and serve in Côte d’Ivoire we hope that they will fall in love with the country and the people. As Jounrnerys begin to grow in their language skills cultureal understanding, they will begin to develop real relationships with nationals. Relationship is the foundation upon which real ministry happens. We hope that as Journeyers fall in love with Ivoirians' they get the chance to see God do big things through them.
Gain Hands-on Experience: Looking at our ministry tracks it is very easy to see that we are going to be serving a lot. As Journeryers learn how to navigate culture, how to speak another language, how to care for peoples needs, how to live in community, and how to do missions well, they will inevitably be better prepared for future mininistry. Imagine two years of inentinal ministry and the skills a person could walk away with.
