The CORPS

What is Journey Corps?

Journey Corps is a 1 or 2 year immersion in cross-cultural life and ministry. Participants (Journeyers) are invited to build deep relationships with people from another culture. As a result, the Journeyer and the people they live & work with are forever changed. It’s a season of learning how to be an intentional Christian wherever you are, as Journeyers are transformed by ministry, for ministry. Journey Corps is hands-on experience with culture & community, facilitated by experienced leadership, national believers, and personal mentors.

How We Do Things

Journey Corps is a ministry of WorldVenture, a mission agency that serves in over 70 countries around the world. Each one of those countries have many needs, but also have much to offer. Each place is a unique training ground for life, and an ideal place to get hands-on ministry experience, all while asking three questions: Who am I? Who is God? What is my role in God’s plan to redeem all creation?

Who is God?

Christianity is about knowing someone, not doing something. That someone is the God of the universe. Knowing Him well will shape how you respond to life and to the world.

Who am I?

Knowing who you are, how God made you, and what He thinks of you are the most important things to know before you do anything. If your actions come from a wrong understanding of any of those things they come from the wrong place.

What is my role?

God is on a mission to redeem His creation and reconcile the world to Himself. He has chosen to do that through his people (the church). By using imperfect people to do His perfect will, He demonstrates how great He is. What is your part in God's mission?

Learning Context

Each world areas represents a unique learning context, a specific perspective on God's mission to restore all creation. Journey Corps makes several of these learning contexts available to young adults. We believe that as we humbly follow Jesus across cultural barriers, He will teach us and transform us for His mission. The leadership of each location develops a program that capitalizes on the strengths of that world area. Journey Corps currently offers three unique learning contexts.

ministry value people first.”

Fall in Love

As people live and serve, they fall in love with the country and the people they are surrounded by. As Journeyers begin to grow in language and cultural understanding, they begin to develop real relationships with the people in their communities. Relationship is the foundation upon which ministry happens.

Gain Hands-on Experience

We often say that Journey Corps is not a mission trip, it is cross-cultural life. Although this is true, Journeyers do end up doing real ministry because of the relationships they build with those around them. The ministries that Journeyers are exposed to help them visualize what their future involvement in God's mission could be. As each one discovers their particular gifting, they become more effective for God's kingdom.

Who Should Come?

Cote D'Ivoire Team

Christ Followers

If you are a young adult whose life has been changed by the gospel and want to share that with other, Journey Corps might be a good place to start. This is not your average mission trip. We want to send people who are willing to set the familiar comforts and follow Jesus into the unknown. Our teams immers into relationships, language, and culture on a level that will change who they are. If you want to trust God to use you in the midst of the unknown then this might be a good fit.

Young Adults

We believe that if we are going to impact our world with the gospel we need do what Jesus told his deciples to do, "Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest (Matthew 9:37-38)." We need to find and equip the next generation of kingdom workers. Journey Corps is designed for young adults ages 18-28. Journeyers are willing to go use their gifts, talents, and hands to serve others for one or two years. Both single individuals and married couples are needed in this ministry.

Why Join the Journey Corps Team?

Joining a program is far less significant than Joining God’s mission. Journey Corps gives you a chance to be intentional about seeking God and finding what your role is in His plan. There is something truly powerful about seeking God inside a context different from your own.

This is not like any short-term missions trip you have been a part of. Journey Corps is not just a program, its cross-cultural life. It is not just survival; it is full of the relationships that make life sweet like family and friends. Beyond the deep sense of community built by the team, new multi-cultural relationships form. Your journey begins as you embrace the unfamiliar until it is familiar just as Christ became one of us in order to reach us.

We have a history with them
and we feel belonging here now
— Naomi Smith (Journeyer)

The Practical

Community:

The friendships you will build with your team will be your lifeline. You are not alone to process the challenges you face. Your team will meet often for encouragement, worship, and debriefing. Experiences and friendships bind Journey Corps teams together.

God’s Will:

Finding God’s will for your life is more about learning to trust Him no matter what comes your way. Your journey will give you so many opportunities to trust God with your life and your future. Your journey across the world will help you be intentional about seeking God’s direction for the future. Everything you do will be filtered through these three questions. Who am I? Who is God? What is my role?

Change the World:

There are so many needs around the world. What do you bring to the table? Most importantly you bring Christ who is the eternal solution to all our needs. You may also bring a skill, a trade, or a compassionate heart to love and serve others. If you want to change the world, it’s done through relationships. Jesus lived thirty years among us before starting his public ministry. Your journey will be more effective as you set aside your need to accomplish tasks and focus on relationships with people. The you will be able to change the world one friendship at a time..
